Thank You for Helping Seniors Beat the Odds!

The 19th Annual Nikkei Place Charity Classic Golf Tournament on May 29th at Riverway Golf Course in Burnaby was a huge success, thanks to everyone who participated and donated.

It was a full house with 144 golfers.  From many generous people and companies, sponsorships and donations were received.

The weather was perfect – a little cool in the morning, but with the sun coming out in the afternoon, we saw everyone on the course with smiles, laughter and great shots making it a fun tournament for all.

The event was kicked off by Shinobu Honma from Chibi Taiko welcoming and energizing all players, and a speech from Hiroshi Yamamoto, the interim president of Nikkei Seniors Healthcare and Housing Society.

A full tally of funds raised has not been finalized, but we know we have surpassed last year’s amount.  We will announce the amount raised in a future article.

We would especially like to give special thanks to our tournament matching donors, Ken and Junko Shinozaki, and to Jane Nimi and Ruegamer Construction, and Ken Yada for their considerable contribution over the past years to support the efforts of Nikkei Seniors Society to providing program that keep our seniors busy and active. This event helps Nimi Nikkei Home residents and beyond to other older adults in the community.  This tournament funds exercise programs ranging from general fitness to “Outfight Parkinson’s Boxing”, everyone benefits!  Our Iki Iki (Lively lively) classes are geared to increase social interactions among older adults, and we offer a wide range of other programs to assist with memory and cognition.
