Write a Postcard or Letter to a Senior

Now more than ever, seniors are battling isolation and loneliness.

Receiving a letter that you can hold and re-read over and over is special. Let seniors at Nimi Nikkei Home know that you care, and are thinking about them.

#SendLettersToSeniors #SendJoy

We are collecting letters and postcards from the community to distribute to seniors at Nimi Nikkei Home.

Send seniors a post card with encouraging words, a hello, we care… any positive message is appreciated. Postcards will be delivered to residents after screening. Let’s see how many we can get and let’s keep them coming over the next months.

Please join or spread the word! #SendLettersToSeniors

Our hearts are warm! Thank you for these beautiful letters we recently received.

Guidelines Before Sending Your Letters or Postcards:

1. Legibility.

Letters or Postcards should be legible (larger print is easier to read) and preferably handwritten for an added personal touch.

2. Avoid religion.

Please refrain from including any religious content in your letters, such as religious quotes, words like “God,” etc.

3. Exclude the date (day, month, and year).

4. Embrace creativity!

Recipients love it when the letters or postcards are personal. We encourage you to be detailed, thoughtful and heartfelt – no worries if you are not artistic. It helps to keep it mind the kind of letter you would like to receive yourself.

5. Be kind and thoughtful (more than talking about yourself).

This is a one-way letter exchange, so keep in mind that you will not receive a personal letter back. One of the great things about your act of kindness is that there is no feeling of obligation to respond. If seniors that receive letters wish to respond back to the community, we will provide them with blank cards and post these.

6. Share the Joy! #SendLettersToSeniors #SendJoy

We encourage you to share your act of kindness with the community. We would love to see photos of your letters or postcards, and it helps encourage friends, family, and fellow neighbours to participate. Let’s see how many letters we can get over the next few months! Our fundraising arm Nikkei Place Foundation is helping us with this initiative – tag them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and use #SendLettersToSeniors and #SendJoy

7. Keep them coming!

We welcome you to send as many cards or letters as you want! Regardless of how long this pandemic lasts, one thing is for sure — our elders can always use more joy in their daily lives.
