Nimi Nikkei Home is a culturally sensitive environment, offering support services for those who need help with activities of daily living.
Nimi Nikkei Home is an assisted living apartment building for residents aged 55 and over. While residents have a large degree of independence in day-to-day living, trained, qualified staff offer personal support and care 24 hours a day. Assisted Living allows residents to live continuously under the umbrella of support for as long as possible, with as little disruption as possible, and is developed to meet the needs of seniors as they continue to age.
Our philosophy
The philosophy of assisted living is to promote resident self-direction and participation in decision that emphasizes choice, dignity, individuality and independence. Assisted living offers meals, basic housekeeping, social opportunities and personal care for its residents. In keeping with this philosophy, Nimi Nikkei Home strives to provide an environment where residents are able to do a much as possible for themselves and take greater control over their daily activities.
Services Offered at Nikkei Home
Kenko Diner is a dining area for our residents on the premises, offering a choice of Japanese and Western dishes.. As a resident, the monthly fee includes breakfast and dinner. Special dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Nimi Nikkei Home has a total of 3 studio units, 5 enhanced studio units and 51 one bedroom units.
Apartment sizes vary – 350 square feet for the three (3) studio units, 400-450 square feet for the five (5) enhanced studio units, and between 600 to 700 square feet for the fifty-one (51) one bedroom units.
The studio units are equipped with a small fridge, sink and space for a microwave. The enhanced units are equipped with kitchen, in-suite laundry, storage, and ceiling tracks for mobility assistance. Each of the one bedroom units is equipped with a kitchen, in-suite laundry, and storage.
All units are equipped with a personal response system.
All of our apartments are wheelchair accessible. Three of our apartments are designed specifically for wheelchair use.
Personnel are available 24 hours a day to help with daily activities such as dressing, grooming, bathing and ambulation.
At all times, access to the resident’s apartment is by intercom access only for visitors. Each apartment is individually keyed. Within apartments, residents will have a personal response system to call in case of an emergency. The parking garage is also secured.
Social programs, recreation, and exercise programs, as well as cooking, and crafts are available for the enjoyment of all our residents.
Additional “Open Door” programs are also available in the Kenko Wellness Lounge for an additional fee.
Activity Rooms & Library
There are four activity rooms, as well as a library program that is open for all residents to enjoy.
There are many free services available on-site for residents such as free manicures and spa. There are also a few extra services available for an additional cost like the hair salon and foot care nurse.
Nikkei Place Campus
Our residences are part of the Nikkei Place campus, offering our residents and community proximity to a museum, cultural centre, Japanese garden, and Japanese grocery store (Suzuya). Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre provides an enjoyable and accessible experience for everyone. There are regular exhibits about the Japanese Canadian and Japanese community, special events including festivals, performances, and craft fairs, as well as cultural and seniors programs.

What are the requirements to be eligible to live at Nimi Nikkei Home?
- At least one resident in each apartment must be 55 years of age or older.
- You must qualify for continuing care services and require personal support.
- You must provide information on your income and the necessary health information.
- You must accept the risks that come with independent living.
(Meeting these requirements does not guarantee residency at Nimi Nikkei Home.)
If you want to be admitted to Nimi Nikkei Home, you should:
- Contact your local Health Authority
- If you are receiving home health services, contact your case manager (CM) and let them know that you would like to be assessed for Assisted Living Program. Let your CM know that you prefer to live in Nimi Nikkei Home.
If you are not receiving home health services, you will ask to be assessed for Assisted Living Program.
