Resident Services Update (Dec 23)

Dear Residents and Families of Robert Nimi Nikkei Home,

As 2022 ends, I would like to wish our residents and families a joyful and restorative holiday season. While this year has not been without its challenges – as many of you will recall, we have severe extreme weather challenges, covid protocols and enhanced Covid measure during periods, kitchen renovations, and the transition of food services to Nikkei Seniors.

We have also begun to see a return to a more normal world and an easing of restrictions. This has included opportunities to gather again at our 20th-anniversary event of Nimi Nikkei Home, the Annual “Beat the Odds of Dementia” golf tournament, the Nikkei Legacy Gala event, Nikkei Matsuri Festival, Resident Christmas party and to take on new and exciting initiatives for 2023.

Our leadership team is grateful for the opportunity to serve our residents and support our staff in their important work. All our departments contributed to a successful year, our Health Care, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Food Services, Activities/Outreach, Administration, and screening/enhanced cleaning are critical components to the success of our organization and pathway to a bright future.

Speaking of leadership, Ruth Midori Coles, our beloved President of the Board of Directors for Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society, is stepping down as the President and has asked me to share her announcement with all of you {attached separately}. Ruth has dedicated her life to Nikkei Place and was here from the very beginning. We are excited that she will stay on the Board for her valuable experience and leadership. Also, please welcome and congratulate Cathy Makihara as our incoming President.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to our staff, working over the Christmas and New Year’s Day statutory holidays to care for our seniors. We also would like to acknowledge and appreciate the Christmas cards and goodies from all the residents and family members for all our staff.

Thank you again for your support, and happy holidays. We look forward to a bright 2023!

Sincerely yours,

Jay Haraga and the Leadership Team
