Japanese Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund

A Community-Based Participatory Grant

The Japanese Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund was announced on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. You can watch the announcement here.

This fund will be administered by Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing, in co-operation with the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC). It will meet the health and wellness needs of Japanese Canadian internment survivors. These seniors have unique needs that stem from their lived experience of internment, force uprooting, dispossession and displacement caused many to relocate to outside of British Columbia.

This Japanese Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund will directly benefit the surviving seniors, support programs, education, equipment, and activities to improve quality of life and the health and wellness of survivors.

“To ensure the fund meets priority needs, this will be a community-based participatory grant, where the local community identifies the priorities”

Cathy Makihara,
Past Executive Director, Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society.
