COVID-19 Prevention at Nimi Nikkei Home (Updated)

Dear Families of Nimi Nikkei Home,

Our Home is currently in a Prevention Phase to promote infection control for COVID-19 and we have expanded infection control steps since the week of April 6, 2020.  Please consider this a continuation of last week’s update.

Nimi Nikkei Home has implemented new measures to meet the CLASS ORDER (Registered Assisted Living Facilities) re: COVID 19 from the Ministry of Health and Fraser Health Authority dated April 9, 2020.

If there has been a change it will be indicated as NEW.
*FHA=Fraser Health Authority

NEW – All meals will be delivered to suites starting April 14. For residents who it has been determined by the Team Leader Coordinator to be unsafe without monitoring will be eating in the dining room. This measure will allow for maximum social distancing.

NEW – Changes to Activities:

  • Hallway Exercise is closed temporarily.  For residents who have been identified as high risk for falls or confusion, will receive a short one-on-one exercise (minimum weekly).  We are encouraging all other residents to do SAIL Home Activity/Exercise from the health authority. Residents are being encouraged to walk the hall while maintaining social distancing and to get fresh air from their balcony or the dining room patio.
  •  Cancellation of Virtual Concerts and Daily News Sheet.

NEW – by Order, Residents must not go into the community except for urgent medical needs (for example – dialysis).  Signs have been posted on the main entrance door.

NEW – Residents and staff screening has been increased to 2x daily.

NEW – No more than 1 person in an elevator (2 people if one is a Care staff)

NEW – Order of the Medical Health Officer is posted on the front COVID-19 Information Board for residents to read.

ENTER – FRONT ENTRANCE ONLY –remains the only entrance to Nimi Nikkei Home.

ESSENTIAL VISIT – Only essential visits to residents are permitted.  Essential visits are for those who are critically ill assessed by a medical health practitioner. No children, one adult only.

COVID 19 SCREENING & SYMPTOMS – Residents screening has been increased to 2x daily.  If a resident presents with new symptom(s) we will request them to remain in their rooms for 14 days after symptoms resolve.

NIKKEI HOME GROCERY STORE – Some supplies are available through our in-house store. Because it’s hard to get cash – residents can pay by cheque.

VIDEO & TELEPHONE CONFERENCES – For video conferences and telephone conference, we will try to maintain Wed, Fri and Sat afternoons – between 1:30-3:30 pm by appointment only.  Please email [email protected]

Residents have been notified of these new changes on Apr 13, 2020.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We may call upon you in the future for further assistance.
