Clarification:<\/strong> Nikkei Seniors\u2019 Fundraising Campaign and the Japanese Canadian Survivors Health & Wellness Fund<\/h2>\n\n\n

On May 5, 2021, Nikkei Seniors Health Care & Housing Society (Nikkei Seniors) received a $2 million grant from the Province of British Columbia to develop and implement a program to benefit Japanese Canadian survivors who were directly impacted by the actions of the BC Government (1942-1949). The fund<\/a> <\/strong>will create grants for the provision of health and wellness programs, activities and needs for the now-elderly survivors of the internment, many of whom have relocated to other parts of Canada. Nikkei Seniors welcomes this grant and has started the work to open a Japanese Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund<\/a> <\/strong>project office so that it can start making grants available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Coincident with the receipt of this grant, Nikkei Seniors launched a fundraising drive<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 \u201cInspire\u00a0 Action \u2013 Tub, Tech, Reboot\u201d to raise much needed funds for the ongoing programs and activities of Robert Nimi Nikkei Home, New Sakura-so, and Outreach. The provincial grant and the fundraising activities occurring simultaneously has caused some confusion as to the need for a fundraising drive when the Society is in receipt of a large government grant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To clarify, the $2 million grant is for the Japanese Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund<\/a> <\/strong>for Japanese Canadian survivors across Canada. The fundraising drive \u201cInspire Action\u201d<\/a> <\/strong>is to raise funds for the operations and programs and activities at Robert Nimi Nikkei Home, New Sakura-so and Outreach. The support from the community is very much needed. With the Covid-19 pandemic causing the cancellation for a second year of Nikkei Seniors major fundraiser, the Board is asking the community for support. To this end the \u201cInspire Action – Tub,\u00a0 Tech, and Reboot\u201d fundraiser was launched. We hope that the community will be inspired by the goals of the campaign to help our seniors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Nikkei Seniors is excited about this opportunity to work on this once in a lifetime Japanese\u00a0 Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund, and we are pleased to have Ms. Eiko Eby as the\u00a0 Project Manager<\/a><\/strong>, working closely with Cathy Makihara and Ruth Coles to roll out the grants.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
