Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society is pleased to announce the appointment of\u00a0Eiko\u00a0Eby as the Project Manager for the Japanese Canadian Survivors Health and Wellness Fund<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0Eiko\u00a0will be working directly for Nikkei Seniors and will lead the Project working in tandem with Cathy Makihara and Ruth Coles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Eiko\u00a0Eby is a yonsei (4th generation) whose parents were both directly impacted by the government actions which forcibly uprooted, dispossessed, and displaced the lives of almost 22,000 Japanese Canadians living in BC. \u00a0She honours the memory of her parents, grandparents and great grandparents, in her extensive community work.\u00a0Eiko\u00a0feels the approach to healing can be made through the lens of wellness.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eiko\u00a0was on the Board of the Central Vancouver Island Japanese Canadian Cultural Society from 1987 until 2021, serving as President for the past 19 years before passing the torch to another great volunteer. \u00a0She has worked on numerous committees for the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC), and considers her experience learning from Art Miki on the core team of the Community Renewal Fund as a moment when she discovered the importance of national outreach. \u00a0A member of the National Executive Board of the NAJC for four years 2016-2020, as Director then Secretary, she holds her contribution to the groundwork for the first talks on BC Redress, as closest to her heart. \u00a0Eiko\u00a0also served the full 6 year term as a member of the Community Council of the University of Victoria-led Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health and wellness is a foundation of Eiko\u2019s career practice as a Professor of Kinesiology at Vancouver Island University, from where she is set to retire. In 2018, Eiko received the Vancouver Island University President\u2019s Award for Outstanding Community Engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eiko was a member of the Canadian National Women\u2019s Over 55 Field Hockey Team that competed in the World Cup in 2018. A devout wife, mother and sister to her four siblings, Eiko is reliable in her relationships and true to her commitment to the community.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
