A starting point for adapting the Iki Iki dementia-friendly program to your community and its needs.
“Iki Iki” is a community-based person-centered program created by partners Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society, Tonari Gumi (Japanese Community Volunteers Association), and Steveston Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Its core value is the Japanese culture of omotenashi – hospitality to our guests and in the care for seniors.
Our dementia-friendly day program is for those experiencing mild to moderate dementia, or for participants who prefer slower paced activities.
Creating a dementia-friendly day program is no small feat, and requires many aspects to consider.
This one-page guide offers an overview about the importance of making community connections, personalizing the program, activities to incorporate, and challenges you might face.
